Microchips In The Dog And Cat.

Microchips { Identichips } In The Dog And Cat.

A couple of events this week from the clinic, one happy and one sad related to micro-chipping. The guys from the garage next door to our clinic found a dead cat under one of their cars, we could do nothing for it except scan it for a microchip which indeed we found. We were able to phone the owner and inform them what had happened at once, I guess they were upset but at least they did not have the uncertainty of not knowing what their pets fate had been. Sometimes owners never get to know where their pets have gone and this tends to spread stories of cat nappers etc. but in fact most missing cats are run over and then hide themselves away and die. The second case was a nice bright boxer dog which was found running through the streets of South Woodham, one of our clients picked it up and left it with us to save him from being run over. Again he was micro-chipped and we we able to phone the owner who came and picked him up later in the day.

I am now a great fan of micro-chipping, the process involves injection a very small inert microchip under your pets skin. Most vets, police, RSPCA etc. have electronic readers and can then scan the information from the chip which will reveal the owner, telephone number etc. I once had the pleasure of returning a stray dog to its owner which had been lost in Portsmouth some six months earlier, the dog was found near Meadow Lane Wickford by the way. The message here is get your pet chipped and we can then get it back to you if it gets lost.
